Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, demons, and dark forces increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of heroes who will split off from the main group to begin their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a hostile place.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as important members in House Halovar could help the group reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
